Toddlers are little balls of energy. Make sure they get plenty of activity during the day. Try to find a balance between the amount of time they spend watching TV verses the amount of time they spend doing physical activities such as playing in the yard, or with their toys. Maybe you can even play some catch with them or take them to the park. It doesn't matter what you choose as long as their getting to burn off some of that excess energy of theirs that we wish we had!
Keep to a bedtime routine. Develop a good bedtime routine and stick to it as much as possible. Not only is this good in helping them to develop a good sleeping pattern but I can tell you by experience this time is much needed for the busy parent. I used to look forward to that quiet time when I finally got my kids tucked in for the night. It may take a little time and a bit of perseverance getting them on to a schedule but it can be done and the outcome will be well worth it.
Limit their sugar intake at least a couple of hours before bedtime, also limiting the amount they drink may head off some problems.
If you're getting a new bed for your toddler letting them help you pick it out may increase the chances of them wanting to stay in it.
Playing some soft music may also help to quiet them down and settle them in for the night. I used to do this with my kids and it worked like a charm.
